The University of Sheffield is a World Top 100 university (QS World University Rankings 2021) and is a member of the UK’s prestigious Russell Group, that has more than 28,000 students from over 140 countries.

Our research influences national, regional and international policy and changes lives. We are in the top 10 per cent of UK universities for the strength and impact of our research (latest Research Excellence Framework, 2014). Through our flagship research institutes, we are tackling some of the most important social, economic and health challenges facing the world today.

As well as being world-renowned experts in their fields, our staff are also leading the way with innovative approaches to teaching. We regularly invest in our teaching and learning facilities including The Diamond, our £81 million centre of engineering, and our library which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We are among the top universities in the UK for outstanding student experience. Our Students’ Union has been voted the best in the UK for four consecutive years (Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2017-20). We have hundreds of student societies to choose from as well as opportunities for volunteering, part-time work and long and short-term work placements. Living in our award-winning University accommodation is a great way to settle into your life as a student and you are guaranteed accommodation as long as you meet a few simple conditions.

The city of Sheffield is located in the north of England, just 2 hours from London and 1 hour from Manchester by train. It’s a popular choice for students with more than 60,000 students choosing to study in Sheffield. The city offers the best of both worlds with all of the amenities of a major city – it’s the 4th largest in England – and the beautiful green spaces of the countryside. It has a reputation for being friendly, welcoming and safe. Whether you love music, shopping or sports, Sheffield offers something for everyone.

If you need any support to meet our entry requirements, we have a British Council-accredited English Language Teaching Centre and our International College offers high-quality foundation and pre-masters programmes. We have a long history of welcoming international students to study at the university and have expert advisers who can support you through every step of your journey to Sheffield.
