Safeguarding young people online

The British Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults at risk in all of our work. Our organisation and our partners always adhere to our Child Protection Policy and Adults at Risk Policy whether our work is face to face or online.

Everyone who takes part in this event should follow our guidelines for online safeguarding:

  • You should be 16 years or older to register and use this platform. Additionally if you are under 18 then your parents’ or guardians’ permission is required when registering.
  •  All platform users commit to communication within clear professional boundaries. This means British Council and university staff will only use corporate email accounts and / or social networks when communicating with you.
  •  All users will use appropriate and non-offensive language at all times during the event and will dress appropriately.
  •  All users must agree never to share inappropriate files or images while taking part in this online event ie during webinars or one-to-one meetings. Inappropriate files include pornographic images, links or images inciting hatred etc.
  •  Comments and questions submitted during webinars should always be relevant to the topic under discussion.
  •  During individual meetings you can protect your privacy by blurring your background and / or ensuring that personal items (e.g. photos) are not visible online.
  •  We encourage your parents / guardians to sit in on your meeting if you are under 18.
